About Van Vihar National
Park
Van
Vihar was declared as National Park on 26th January 1983. It covers an
areas of 445.21 ha. Once a barren area, it has now been transformed in
to an oasis of greenery. This is a unique zoo of the country, as the
animals are kept here in near natural conditions. Country to the
popular belief, animals are not captured from the forests for bringing
them here. Most of the animals kept here are either orphaned animals
brought here from all parts of Madhya Pradesh or those which have been
exchanged with other zoos.
Location:
It is located in the heart of the Bhopal city and is easily
accessible by road, train and by air. It is situated at a distance of
5 Km Each from the bus stand and Railway station and 10 Km from the
Airport.
Aims and objectives:

Protection and conservation of wild animals in near natural habitat.

Breeding of wild animals as per Central Zoo Authority guidlines and
release of captive bred animals in to the wild.

To bring awarenes among general public on the need for wildlife
conservation and to foster a feeling of sympathy among zoo visitors
for wild animals.

To provide an opportunity for scientific stusies on wildlife
conservation.
Van Vihar National Park have number of carnivore, herbivore, reptiles
with a large number of local and migratory birds. Animals you can see
in a single visit, Tiger, White tiger, Leopard, White Bear, Sloath
bear, Hyaena, Cheetal, Sambar, Neelgai, Chousingha, Black buck,
Aligator, Crocodile
